Vision & Purpose:
In 1986 I founded Casteele, Williams and Associates with an emphasis on caring for the mental health of others. I had served two tours in Vietnam, and for five years I had been the Director of Public Education for the Pierce County Health Department, which gave me the perspective and very personal understanding of what a person goes through during traumatic situations.
I knew how it is possible to improve access to the services needed to work through the difficult life situations that come from such experiences, and I made it my mission to do so. As years passed, I got to know the problems my clients faced and began to perceive the inter-related nature of the cycles of anger, dependency, family struggles and other challenges that come from exposure to highly traumatic events like abuse, and service in time of war. I made note that a man or woman I helped with one service would have to go to another office to treat another symptom in their life, that this was an unnecessary burden to the people I served and so, I began adding service by service the programs and staff needed address their situations as a whole - holistically, as it were. 30 years later I am happy to say that what began as a mission to serve has become in reality much more than I ever could have imagined at the time. My vision continues to grow to this day, and it is my sincere pride and pleasure to serve the people of South Sound communities in ever expansive, increasingly beneficial ways. - Dr. John Casteele
